The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team is now investigating a hit and run crash that happened last Monday after one of the involved occupants died this afternoon.

Sandra Janette Watkins (77) of the 300 block of Blue Grass Lane, 21074, was a passenger in a 2018 GMC Yukon involved in a 3-car collision on I-795/Butler Road and Westminster Pike on Monday. A 1993 Ford F-150 ran a red light while traveling westbound on Westminster Pike and was struck by a 2017 Ford F-350 traveling northbound on I-795 on a green light, causing the suspect vehicle to strike the Yukon that Watkins was traveling in as it was making a left turn from I-795 onto westbound Westminster Pike.

The suspect vehicle then fled westbound on Westminster Pike and was later located by Maryland State Police in Carroll County. The driver, identified as Jay Michael Perkins (56) of the 700 block of William Avenue in Westminster, 21157, was arrested and charged for the hit-and-run crash in Baltimore County along with additional charges for violations committed in Carroll County.

At the time the crash was reported all of the remaining drivers and passengers declined medical attention. Watkins began to feel ill the following day and was transported to Sinai Hospital. She died this afternoon.

The BCoPD Crash Investigation Team will continue to investigate all of the factors in this crash and present their findings to the State's Attorney's Office for Baltimore County for review, at which time Perkins may face additional charges.

No booking photo is available as Perkins was arrested in Carroll County.
