Fire Chief Kyrle W. Preis III has announced the promotion of six members to the rank of Fire Specialist. They are:

  • EMT/FF Matthew Dize
  • EMT/FF Katarion Jackson
  • EMT/FF Kirsten Koenig
  • EMT/FF David Sutherland
  • EMT/FF Daniel Warchol
  • EMT/FF Corey Watkins

The promotions are effective Saturday, September 16.

"This is a significant milestone," Chief Preis said. "I hope this is the first of many advances for these hardworking professionals."

UPDATE (September 12, 2017 1:13 p.m.):

Kevin Tyrone Glover (37) of the 1000-block of West Baltimore Street, 21223 has been indicted in the shooting death of Bernie Slater on March 17 of this year.

Video surveillance obtained by detectives depicts Glover approaching a vehicle on the parking lot of the Windsor Inn on Windsor Mill Road and speaking with someone in the vehicle, whom police believe Glover collaborated with in the murder of Mr. Slater. Glover is later seen approaching the driver's side of Mr. Slater's vehicle across the street from the Windsor Inn, shooting Mr. Slater, and then fleeing the scene with his collaborator. Mr. Slater is seen exiting his vehicle and crossing Windsor Mill Drive where he collapses to the ground in front of the Windsor Inn.

Glover is charged with the following:

  • 1st Degree Murder
  • 1st Degree Assault
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony/Violent Crime
  • Possession of a Firearm
  • Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm
  • Wear/Carry/Transport a Handgun Upon Their Person
  • Conspiracy

Glover is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections for a violation of probation on August 23 stemming from a prior conviction for a 2015 DUI offense.

Original Release (March 17, 2017 7:29 a.m.):

Just after 1:30 a.m. on March 17, 2017, Baltimore County Police received a call for a shooting in a parking lot in the 7200-block of Windsor Mill Road, 21244. Upon arrival, officers found a victim lying on the parking lot across from the Windsor Inn.

The man was shot multiple times to the upper body and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Baltimore County Fire personnel.

The victim has been identified as Bernie Maurice Slater, 24, of the 4000-block of Massachusetts Avenue, 21229.

The next edition of Police Report, the Baltimore County Police Department’s cable TV program, runs through October.

The opening segment focuses on the School Resource Officer (SRO) program. Sergeant Anissa Watkins, of the Safe Schools Section, discusses the successful partnership between the Baltimore County Police Department and Baltimore County Public Schools. Sergeant Watkins speaks about the enhanced safety that the SRO program brings to students and staff in Baltimore County Public Schools and provides school safety tips.

The topic of the second segment is school crossing guards. Officer Jonathan Strickler and Ms. Susan Joyner, of Traffic Resource Management, explain the important role that school crossing guards have in safely getting students to and from school. They also provide school bus and pedestrian safety tips, and information on how to become a school crossing guard.

The program airs every day on Cable Channel 25, only in Baltimore County. The times are:

Monday: 10:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 9 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Wednesday: 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Thursday: Noon, 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m., 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Saturday: 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Sunday: 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
