Original Release (August 17, 2017 9:38 a.m.):

Baltimore County Police are investigating a street robbery and a shooting that both occurred at the intersection of Birch Avenue and Walnut Avenue in Dundalk. Investigators believe they are related, and have reason to believe there could be additional victims that have not reported the crimes to police.

Police were investigating an attempted robbery and shooting at that intersection on July 23 when they discovered that the suspect description matched that of a suspect in another robbery that happened at that same intersection eight days earlier.

On July 15, two Hispanic men were parked at that intersection around 3:15 a.m. citing car trouble. They reported they were approached from behind by a black male suspect who got into their vehicle, displayed a handgun, and ordered them to drive down an alley behind the 1900 block of Walnut Avenue, where he demanded their money and phones. When one of the victims refused, the suspect punched him in the face and struck the other in the face with the frame of the handgun. The victims and suspect all fled the scene.

The second case, believed to involve the same male suspect, occurred around 4:45 a.m. on July 23, at that same intersection. In this case, a Hispanic man met a white female at a nearby location, where they arranged to meet at the intersection of Birch Avenue and Walnut Avenue for a sexual encounter. Once at that intersection, the same black male suspect entered the victim’s vehicle, pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his money. The victim fled the vehicle and was shot once in the upper body by the suspect.

Investigators believe that the criminal couple may be targeting Hispanic males by luring them to that area under the guise of performing sex acts, but then robbing them instead. Police are asking for any victims of similar crimes in that area to come forward and report the encounters by calling police at 410-887-2222.

These cases continue to be investigated by the Baltimore County Police Violent Crimes Unit and Dundalk Precinct Investigative Services Unit.
