UPDATE (June 21, 2017 4 p.m.):

Police have identified the suspect who died while being detained for police after breaking into a vehicle in Halethorpe as 45-year-old Shawn William Dotterweich with no fixed address.

The homicide unit continues to investigate this incident. Autopsy results remain pending.

Original Release (June 18, 2017 11:56 a.m.):

Baltimore County Police are investigating a death in the Halethorpe area.

Just before 8:30 am, a man was in the parking lot of a business -- the Family Dollar Store -- in the 4300-block of Annapolis Road, 21227, when he saw another man breaking into a car on the lot. The witness walked up to the suspect and confirmed that the suspect was in fact breaking into the car. The witness attempted to hold the suspect and call for police.

The suspect resisted the witness the entire time.

Officers arrived and shortly determined that the suspect was unconscious and not breathing. Medical personnel responded and pronounced the suspect deceased.

Police are investigating this incident as a suspicious death. An autopsy will be performed on the suspect by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Upon conclusion of the Medical Examiner's investigation, detectives will submit their findings to the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office for review.

Names of those involved in this incident cannot be released at this time, pending notifications of next of kin.
