Update (12/15/16 12:20 p.m.)

Due to pending inclement weather, the basketball clinic at Dumbarton Middle School is cancelled.

Original Release (11/29/17 12:16 p.m.)

Kids, ages eight to 14, are invited to another free basketball clinic hosted by the Baltimore County Police Department. The clinic will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 15, at Dumbarton Middle School located at 300 York Road, Towson 21286.

Children are encouraged to bring a friend and get some hoop tips from County officers. The clinic offers kids a chance to learn teamwork, as well as develop leadership skills. It is also a great opportunity for police officers and youngsters to interact with each other. The officers are great role models for young people.

Officers from around the County will be there to share their "hoop" skills. As they do so, they will be open to questions from the kids regarding police work and how to join the Baltimore County Police Department as an Explorer or Cadet.

Pizza, water, Gatorade, snacks and a "sports sack" will be provided to all participants.

Get your sneakers, shorts and favorite T-shirt ready for the Pre-Holiday Basketball Clinic.

Download and submit the Basketball Clinic permission slip/waiver (PDF) to register. Walk-ins are welcome too!

The annual Shop with a Cop has been re-scheduled for Saturday, December 16. Details of the event are available in the original release posted below.

Update (12/8/17 3:50 p.m.)

Baltimore County Police have postponed "Shop with a Cop" scheduled for December 9 due to impending weather.

Original Release (12/7/17 3:08 p.m.)

This year marks the 16th annual “Shop with a Cop” program in Baltimore County. At 7:30 a.m. on December 9, 100 police officers and 100 children will leave precincts from around Baltimore County to participate in the event.

Officers and children will arrive at approximately 8 a.m. at the Walmart store in Cockeysville. Members of the Optimist Clubs will greet them as holiday music is performed by Dulaney High School students.

The children and their officer “buddies” will do holiday shopping with money provided by the Optimist Clubs of Baltimore County. Each child receives $100 to spend as he or she chooses. Usually, the children buy presents for family and friends.

After shopping, the officers and children will drive to the Outback restaurant in the Hunt Valley Towne Centre for breakfast. (Outback provides the breakfast.)

A special Baltimore County Police Department tradition, the BCoPD “Shop with a Cop” event is the largest in the state.

The Department looks forward each year to doing its part to give families a happy holiday. The event also gives children a chance to know their local police officers.
