Photo of first African American Fire Lieutenant Twana Allen.February is Black History Month. The Baltimore County Police and Fire Departments take this opportunity to recognize African Americans who have been pioneers in these agencies.

In October 2015, the Baltimore County Fire Department promoted its first female African American, Twana Allen to the rank of Fire Lieutenant.

Lieutenant Allen is a 14-year veteran of the Baltimore County Fire Department.

She began her journey as a volunteer at the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company. In 2001, she began her professional career as an EMT at Station 18, Randallstown. In 2002, she was promoted to Paramedic; in 2009, she became a a Fire Specialist.
