The man in the police-involved shooting has been identified as Edward Donnell Bright, Sr., 56 years old, from the 9900 block of Southall Road, Randallstown, Maryland 21133.

Original release (January 31 8:37 a.m.):

Just after 2:00 a.m. on January 31, Baltimore County Police received a call from a 7-11 store located in the 9800 block of Liberty Road 21133, for a man with a knife.

Two Baltimore County officers responded to the call and saw the man with the knife, standing outside the front door of the store. Due to the threat to public safety, the officers ordered the man to drop the knife. The man refused to drop the knife when told to do so. The situation continued to escalate when the man approached the officers while continuing to hold the knife.

At that time, the officers attempted to subdue the suspect through the use of an electronic control device (“Taser”). The Taser did not cause the man to drop the knife. As the man continued to approach the officers with the knife in his hand, both officers shot the suspect.

The suspect received medical attention and was transported to Sinai Hospital. The man was pronounced deceased at Sinai Hospital. Neither officer was injured during the incident.

The investigation is on-going at this time. The Baltimore County Police Homicide unit will conduct a full investigation, which will be reviewed by the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative leave.

No further information is available at this time.
