Just before 6:30 p.m. on March 17, 2019, Baltimore County Police received a call for an assault that occurred on Interstate 695 near the Liberty Road exit. The subsequent investigation revealed that a man and woman were traveling on the outer loop of I-695 when the male victim driving the car, changed lanes. After changing lanes, a suspect driving a Volkswagen Jetta, came beside the victims’ car. As the incident continued, the suspect inside the Jetta pointed a handgun at the man and woman.

The victims were able to provide identifying information about the suspect. Baltimore County detectives continued their investigation and identified the suspect as Zachary Tyler Bowen, 28, of the 300-block of Leyton Road, 21136. Bowen was located at his residence and placed under arrest. Police learned that Bowen is a Trooper with the Maryland State Police.

Bowen has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime.
