Baltimore County Police have charged a Havre De Grace man in connection with an inappropriate relationship he had with a 17-year-old female student.

On May 14, Baltimore County Police became aware that a Towson High School teacher had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student at the school. The student told investigators that the teacher would drive her to areas that included Cromwell Valley Park, Roland Park, and Wymann Park. He also drove her to work and  home. In March, the relationship became physical.

The student described the physical contact between her and the teacher as kissing and the teacher touching her in inappropriate areas over her clothing. She did not touch the teacher in an inappropriate area.

Investigators reviewed emails sent between the teacher and the student. The review indicated references to kissing and sexualized writing. Nothing in the review indicated any unreported sexual contact or sexual acts.

The investigation indicated that the contact between the teacher and the student did not involve sexual intercourse.

The teacher has been identified as 36-year-old Richard James Hanna of the 4000 block of Rock Run Road 21078. He has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor and related charges. He was released on $10,000 bail.
