Title: What makes an economy thrive

by Kevin Kamenetz, Baltimore County Executive

It’s Economic Development Week in Maryland. This column could be about economic policy, taxes and budgets. But it’s not. This is about what I believe makes a place, and its economy, thrive.

A place to live and a place to work.

A place where education is the most important commodity.

A place that respects every resident and welcomes newcomers and visitors.

A place that listens to business needs and neighborhood needs.

A place that is affordable and growing.

A place where entrepreneurs find kindred spirits.

A place where artists and scientists are valued.

A place that treasures green spaces and waterways.

A place where heroes volunteer and corporations give back.

A place that is easy to call home.

More than 830,000 people and 21,000 businesses call Baltimore County home. That’s my definition of prosperity.
