Title: Tech Help is On the Way

Technology internship program assists businesses

By Sara Trenery, Baltimore County Economic and Workforce Development

The race is on to recruit top tech talent. And Maryland’s colleges and universities are training some of the best.

Hiring an intern can help businesses get a jump on the best talent. Internships can be a valuable tool, both for businesses looking to develop a local talent pipeline and for students interested in getting some real world business experience prior to graduation.

The Maryland Technology Internship Program (MTIP) can help companies tap into talent at our colleges and universities. The program also helps Baltimore County retain top talent by increasing the number of paid technical internships.

Internship Funding Available

Internship funding is now available to tech-based businesses offering paid internships. Preference will be given to smaller businesses and employers seeking interns to fill technical and creative roles that require science, technology, engineering, and/or math (STEM) skills.

Funded by the State of Maryland and administered by the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), the program offers financial assistance to technology-based businesses and local agencies to hire more interns from all Maryland higher education institutions.

The Maryland Technology Internship Program can reimburse employers for up to 50% of an intern’s wage and up to $3,000 annually per intern.

If you are recruiting candidates for internships, review the MTIP program details and apply now for the spring semester.

Top tech talent can be just a click away.
