Title: Baltimore County men encouraged to take control of their health

June is Men’s Health Month

Baltimore County health officials are encouraging men to take advantage of free screening clinics. These clinics serve uninsured and underinsured teenage and adult males.

The purpose of the Men’s Health Clinic is aligned with the Department of Health’s mission to prevent disease and promote health through education, advocacy, linkage to care and treatment. Males who attend the free clinics for a “tune up” will be provided with:

  • Education about health and appropriate screenings,
  • Advocacy and assistance with applying for Medical Assistance,
  • Links to community resources for those without insurance, while those with insurance will be referred to their primary care providers for follow up, and
  • Treatment of sexually transmitted infections.

The men’s health clinics will be available on the following dates from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the following locations. No appointment is necessary.

“As the health officer for Baltimore County and a physician for over 25 years, I am a firm believer that when we have healthy men, we have healthy families,” said Director of Health and Human Services, Dr. Gregory Wm. Branch. “With things like HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, heart disease, obesity and diabetes on the rise, one of the best ways to attack these problems is by addressing the health conditions that impact men, who tend not to seek routine or preventative health care.”

Available screenings at the free clinics will include:

  • Blood pressure
  • Flu shots
  • Glucose
  • HIV/STI testing
  • Substance use
  • Weight and height
