The Center for Family Success (formerly the Young Parent Support Center) is a comprehensive family support and development center that strives to strengthen families, promote the healthy development of children and guide families toward self-sufficiency and economic independence. It is a two-generation program that encourages a strong parent-child bond. All services offered are free.

Population Served

All participants of the Center for Family Success program must be:

  • An expectant mother, or
  • Parents of children ages two months up to four years old (parent must have at least 50 percent custody of child)

Services Available

The following services are offered by the Center for Family Success:

  • Childcare, provided by trained childcare staff, is designed to help children: engage in age-appropriate activities; develop socialization skills; and improve their literacy and speaking skills in order to be ready for pre-kindergarten
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE) to help parents prepare for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) tests. Classes are offered Monday through Thursday.
  • Nurturing Parenting Program, a six-week program offered two times per week, four sessions per year, designated to teach parents effective parenting strategies to best nurture their child (meets court-ordered requirements for parents with children up to the age of four)
  • English as a second language (ESL) classes with childcare
  • In-Home Interventionist which provides home visits to pregnant and parenting parents with children up to the age of four who cannot come to the Center. The program provides services to enhance the parent and child relationship, engage children in developmentally appropriate activities, and provide health care education.
  • Service coordination and referral services to help parents respond to personal and family challenges and to set appropriate goals for Center participation
  • Daytime transportation to and from the Center for residents in the southeast area of Baltimore County (within certain limits)
  • Life skills and health education classes
  • Opportunities to participate in recreational outings, field trips and leadership development skills

Hours of Operation

The Center for Family Success is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ABE classes are offered Monday through Thursday mornings. All participants are expected to attend from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., two days per week. Outings are generally scheduled on Fridays.
