COVID-19 Coronavirus Updates and Guidance

The County is taking a number of actions to keep residents safe and minimize the spread of COVID-19. Find status information for County operations and services.

CountyRide

CountyRide provides specialized transportation services for general purpose trips to County residents that meet certain criteria.

Buses operate Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are equipped with:

  • Easy, low-step entrances
  • Wheelchair accommodations
  • Escorts who may accompany riders needing special assistance (no additional cost)
  • Clear markings for easy identification

Each CountyRide driver has a commercial driver's license with a passenger endorsement indicating that he or she has passed special written and road tests. All receive ongoing monitoring, training and biannual certification in CPR and first aid. Drivers wear uniforms and vehicles are clearly marked for easy identification.

Rider Eligibility

The following County residents are eligible for the CountyRide program:

  • Seniors—60 years of age or older
  • Persons with disabilities ages 18 to 59—Pending review of required documentation as requested on the registration form
  • Rural residents of all ages—Those who reside within the rural boundaries (determined by Baltimore County) of Baltimore County

All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Parents or guardians are responsible for supplying a child safety seat for every child under 8 years of age, unless the child is 4-foot and 9-inches or taller, and weighs more than 65 pounds.

Trip Types

All trips are based upon availability.

  • Medical trips—Are given preference and can be scheduled up to two weeks in advance of the appointment date.
  • Non-medical trips—Can be scheduled up to one week in advance of the date you are scheduling for.
  • Same-day service—You must speak with an agent to schedule same-day service. Depending on unanticipated cancellations, transportation may be available at least one way, but there are no guarantees.

Shopping Shuttle

The Shopping Shuttle program provides transportation services for registered CountyRide participants to destinations like grocery stores, malls or individual stores. The destination may change from month to month to give participants a selection of shopping experiences. The Shopping Coordinator organizes the program for each area. Participants may use the shuttle at least once per month.

When participants arrive at their shopping destination, approximately one and a half hours will be allowed for shopping. Frozen foods and other perishables should either be picked up last or preserved in a thermal container. The Shopping Shuttle driver will discuss return pick-up time and location with participants. Fares are the same as for the regular CountyRide program.

Fares

Full fare, tickets or cash, will be collected on the first trip of the day when you first enter the van. Drivers may not wait for you to purchase tickets at senior centers.

Ticket Holders

Ticket books should be purchased before the trip, either in person from the CountyRide Office, by mailing a check or money order to CountyRide, or at any senior center. Ticket books costs $15 and contain six tickets ($2.50 per ticket).

  • One way trips within the County—One ticket
  • One way trips if the city-county line is crossed—Two tickets

Refunds

Full books of tickets will be refunded, less a 15 percent handling fee.

Non-Ticket Holders

If you do not have tickets at the time of your trip, you may pay with cash, check or money order. Exact change is required as change can’t be provided.
