Welcome to the Baltimore County Police Department's Training Section Web page. The Training Section is dedicated to providing professional police education to recruits just beginning a career in law enforcement as well as maintaining the Maryland Police Training Commission certifications for over 1,900 sworn officers throughout their tenure with our accredited Department. The Training Section is also pleased to offer specialized courses to our officers in order to increase their knowledge and abilities in the field.

The Entrance Level Training Unit is charged with the initial instruction of men and women eager to serve the citizens of Baltimore County. Academy classes are conducted twice a year and are in full compliance with Training Commission requirements. This demanding curriculum is provided by a fully qualified staff of experienced police instructors, all certified by the Training Commission in various law enforcement disciplines.

The In-Service Training Unit ensures that our sworn officers continue to comply with State of Maryland mandates through a comprehensive annual certification process, including First Aid updates, officer and firearm safety, homeland security and other topical issues pertinent to current social needs. These needs are also met through various Specialized Criminal and Traffic Training courses offered throughout the year. Many of these classes are available to officers from surrounding jurisdictions as well.

I would encourage all visitors to explore this site often as we are continuously updating the courses offered in order to meet the needs of the modern law enforcement professional. You can contact any of our instructors in the “Contact Information” link to the left for further information on every course we provide. We are committed to our core values of Integrity, Fairness and Service.

Captain John A. Campbell
