Legal Options

The Protection Order Advocacy and Representation Project (POARP) provides free Protective Order legal advice and representation. The emergency walk-in legal clinic for victims of domestic violence is located within the Circuit Court at 401 Bosley Avenue, Towson, Maryland 21204. To file criminal charges, take your police report or police report number to the Commissioner's Office at the same address as mentioned above. Reports concerning the behavior of domestic violence offenders released to parole and probation supervision can be made to a victim advocate.

Temporary Protective Interim Orders order the abuser to stay away, allow for the abuser to removed from the home and give temporary child custody.

A Petition of Protection can be obtained at the Civil Clerk's desk at the District Court, from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. If a Petition of Protection is needed after business hours, weekends or on a holiday, visit the Court Commissioner to get an Interim Order. The Commissioner will inform you of the date and location of your second hearing.
