Francis Scott Key Bridge Incident Updates
Watch the Recording of County Executive John A. Olszewski Jr. delivering the Proposed FY25 Budget Message

A permit is required for each meter release.  If an electrical service installation requires a "work/with" with BGE, the following steps should be observed:

  • Complete as much of the work that can be done prior to the "work/with."
  • A service inspection must be scheduled via your online portal account.
  • You must call the inspector prior to the inspection to explain the installation. Inspectors can be reached by calling 410-887-3960, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 and 8 a.m. or 3 and 3:30 p.m.

Important Note Regarding Permit Addresses

Only one address is permitted on each permit and must reflect the actual address of the building. Make sure this address is aligned with the address BGE has provided. Frequently, the use of the acronym AKA is used in the address section of the permit application so that the address matches the location in the SDAT tax records, and BGE also has an address which matches their records.

Multiple Meters at One Address

Multiple meters on the same permit are permitted, provided they are all ready for inspection and release at the same time. When listing multiple meters on the same permit, information must be provided in the body of the permit such that BGE is able to determine the size of the service being applied to each tenant (for example: 100amps Units A through D; 150amps Units E, G, H; 200amps Units F and I, etc.)

About the Meter Release Process

A copy of your permit can be released only once to Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE).

  1. Schedule BGE Meter Release

Learn how to schedule a BGE meter release via your online account.

  2. Release Permit

A copy of the permit is sent to BGE. The information provided within the permit is the only information BGE receives. If we are to provide a verbal or faxed meter release, it will takeat least 24 hours to reflect in BGE's system.

  3. Contact BGE

At the request of BGE, allow five business days after the electrical inspections were approved before calling the BGE call center.

  4. Schedule Meter Installation

Instruct all customers to call their contractors to schedule their meter installation.
