The Waste Management Program is responsible for regulating the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes in the County. The Waste Management Program reviews permit applications for razings (building demolition), interior alternations and open burnings, and regulates local trash haulers, recycling facilities and landfills. Waste Management also responds to citizen inquiries related to handling and proper disposal of asbestos containing materials (ACM) and special wastes.

Find information about the following:

  • Asbestos Containing Materials—Review information concerning the proper handling of ACM. View a list of contractors licensed by Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to test and remove ACM.
  • Disposal of Special Waste Materials (PDF)—Obtain an application for disposal of special waste materials in Baltimore County. Special waste materials include petroleum contaminated soils, asbestos containing materials and commercial food products.
  • Household Hazardous Waste—Review information regarding the proper handling and disposal of unwanted batteries, paints, medicines and household chemical wastes. Note: As of January 1, 2017, this program will be managed by the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Solid Waste.
