Career Development WorkshopsThe Complete Picture

To register for any of the Career Development Workshops below, you must be registered with a Baltimore County Career Center and enrolled in the Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE). In order to take full advantage of the Workshops, you must meet the prerequisites listed below before registering. 

Once enrolled in MWE, you may register for an upcoming class, seminar or workshop by visiting the events calendar or by contacting the Career Center nearest you. Check-in for workshops begins 15 minutes prior to the session and participants will not be permitted to enter 15 minutes after the start of a workshop.

Introduction to the Job Connector Toolkit

Want to know the in-demand occupations in Baltimore County? Join us for a Job Connector Toolkit workshop to find out how to use data, technology and knowledge to plan your next career move. The Job Connector Toolkit is organized around nine targeted industry clusters that are projected to drive more than 75 percent of Baltimore County's employment growth over the next decade. Can't make it to a workshop? The Job Connector Toolkit features industry and occupationally specific information for each of Baltimore County's nine targeted industry clusters. Learn what skills and credentials that are in the highest demand with County employers. You may access the toolkit online.

Job Search Planning Strategies—The TIME Method

The TIME Method is a complete job search planning strategy that is comprised of three phases:

  1. Research
  2. Planning
  3. Execution

It features four different job search methods:

  1. Title Search
  2. Industry Search
  3. Municipal or Location Search
  4. Employer Search

This workshop is perfect for job seekers new to the job search process and those who have been out of the job search market for a while. Participants at all levels are welcome to attend and group discussion is encouraged.

Basic Computer Strategies: Three Sessions

Learn basic computer proficiency skills related to your job search. You may take all three of the following sessions in sequence or select the session(s) that match your needs.

Computer Basics

  • Identifying parts of the mouse and the keyboard
  • Mouse and keyboard practice

Microsoft Word Basics

  • Creating, renaming and saving files
  • Document editing
  • Formatting with copy, cut and paste

Internet and Email Basics

  • Using internet browsers
  • Working with minimize, maximize and close
  • Learning email basic skills
  • Attaching documents to an email

Required: For each Basic Computer Strategies session bring a flash drive and be able to access your active Gmail account on a computer.

LinkedIn Job Seeker Strategies

This hands-on beginner workshop is designed to teach job seekers how to create a profile or optimize their inactive account, build a strong network of contacts to attract employers and easily search and apply to jobs on LinkedIn. Job seekers will leave the workshop with access to job search and career advancement resources through LinkedIn.

Required: Must be able to use a computer and access your active email account on a computer, without assistance.  

Strongly encouraged: Bring your smartphone to download the LinkedIn app and take a profile photo.

Please note: This workshop is for new users of LinkedIn. There is no cost to using LinkedIn as a basic member.

Résumé Writing Strategies

Understand that your résumé serves as an introduction to potential employers and summarizes your education, experience and expertise. Discover effective strategies for writing winning résumés and the core components of a résumé. This lecture-only workshop is designed to teach you résumé fundamentals that you can take and build upon.

Interviewing Strategies

Review basic and intermediate strategies for effective performance in job interviews. We will cover interview preparation, attire, logistics, commonly asked questions and follow up. Participants at all levels are welcome to attend and group discussion is encouraged.

Inclement Weather Policy

  • In the event of a delayed opening, all morning workshops will be canceled and rescheduled. Afternoon workshops will run as scheduled.
  • In the event of an early dismissal, all afternoon workshops will be canceled and rescheduled.

In the event of a cancellation, you will be contacted with the reschedule date.
