EPS Variances

The Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability (EPS) publishes a list of the environmental administrative variance requests along with their status. The requests are listed by County Council District.

Planning Board Meetings

Baltimore County Planning Board meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday, May 7, at 4 p.m., in Room 104, Jefferson Building, 105 West Chesapeake Avenue in Towson

Planning Department Welcomes Census Outreach Specialists

In February, the County's Department of Planning welcomed new temporary staff to help spread the word that “Everyone Counts” for the 2020 U.S. Census, which is underway now at my2020Census.gov. The staffers are funded in part through a grant from the State of Maryland. The Department of Planning is providing crucial in-kind support to work with traditionally hard-to-count populations, including low-income households, senior citizens, renters, people who speak limited English and households with children under age five.

The staffers are working under Sevetra Peoples, Special Assistant to County Administrative Officer Stacy L. Rodgers, who directs the County’s census efforts. The County’s overall response rate to the Census in 2010 was 78 percent. That count was slightly down from that of the 2000 Census.

Ms. Rodgers co-chairs the County’s 2020 Decennial Census Complete Count Committee, along with County Executive Johnny Olszewski.

Says Peoples, “Mr. Olszewski has set an ambitious goal of a 92 percent completion rate, to make sure that Baltimore County’s communities receive the federal support they’re due.”

The outreach workers have been focusing their efforts on collaborating with the County’s numerous neighborhood and civic associations, residents of senior apartment complexes, early childhood educators, and others.

The Census became available online on March 10 and continues into July.

Comprehensive Zoning Map Process 2020

The Comprehensive Zoning Map Process (CZMP) takes place every four years on an exact schedule specified in the County Code. Any citizen may request a zoning change on any property in Baltimore County, although the usual participants in the process are individual landowners, contract purchasers, community organizations, County staff, the Planning Board and the County Council.

The CZMP covers a period of approximately 12 months and results in zoning decisions that are reflected in a final log of issues. Ultimately, the County Council decides on each issue whether to retain the existing zoning or to enact a different zone(s) or district(s). Generally, each issue is a single property, but an issue might cover many adjoining properties and might even cover many hundreds of acres. The zoning on all properties that were not issues is reenacted without change.

New Water Lines on Eastern Avenue

Baltimore County is replacing old cast-iron water lines on Eastern Avenue, which have failed frequently, between the Back River Bridge and Riverside Drive. Work on the new 24-inch mains began in mid-January and is eight percent complete. The project is expected to be completed by the summer at a cost of $3 million.

Rosebank Avenue Pumping Station

The Department of Public Works is rehabilitating the Rosebank Avenue Sewage Pumping Station near North Point Boulevard in Dundalk. Work began late last year and was expected to be finished on January 30. The $2.3 million project is 95 percent complete.

Blenhurst Pumping Station

The Department of Public Works has started a major renovation of the Blenhurst Sewage Pumping Station at 8345 Bletzer Road. The project, which is 53 percent complete, will cost $2,633,500 and was expected to be finished by December 2019.

Hearings Postponed

All Administrative Law Judge hearings are postponed effective Monday, March 16 through Friday, May 1. Hearings will resume on Monday, May 4. If your hearing is scheduled to occur between March 16 and May 1, you will be contacted to reschedule.
