How to Prepare for BCoPD Tests

Applicants must complete a Written Exam and Physical Agility Test to ensure they are capable of meeting the mental and physical requirements of Baltimore County Police Officer.

Applicants must complete a Written Exam and Physical Agility Test to ensure they are capable of meeting the mental and physical requirements of Baltimore County Police Officer. You can prepare for the Written Exam and the Physical Agility Test by following the guidelines below.

Physical Agility Test

You must have a Physical Agility Waiver (PDF) signed by a physician in order to take the physical agility test (video).

 

Be sure to allow your doctor enough time to complete this form.

 

Applicants who fail to bring a completed and signed Physical Agility Waiver with them to the physical agility test will not be allowed to participate in the test.

Written Exam

The Written Examination consists of several multiple choice questions. Applicants will be given 3 hours to complete the Written Examination. 

 

The Written Examination measures:

  • Cognitive Abilities
  • Situational Judgment
  • Behavior Characteristics
  • Attitudes

Test Criteria

Sex and Age Sit- Ups Push-ups 1.5 Mile Run (min:sec)
Males 20 1/2 years or older 31 21 14:21
Females 20 1/2 years or older 22 11 17:39

 

Test Breakdown

  • Trigger and Slide Pull Lock and Release Test measures hand strength. Trigger Pull is measured for strong and weak hands. Slide Pull is measured for strong hand. Scoring is same for male and female, all ages.
  • Sit-up Test measures abdominal and hip flexor muscular endurance. The score is the number of sit-ups performed in one minute. A correct sit up will be counted each time the up position is met while maintaining proper form.
  • Push-up Test measures muscular endurance of the upper body. The score is the number of push-ups performed in one minute. The participant must keep the back straight at all times and lower the body to the floor until chest touches 3-inch sponge or fist.
  • 1.5 Mile Run measures cardiovascular capacity. Candidates must run 1.5 miles on a flat, paved surface.

Test Appropriate Clothing

On the day of your test, wear athletic clothing, for example a sweatshirt or T-shirt and sweatpants or shorts and sneakers.

Note: The Baltimore County Police Department does not recommend applicants wear headphones or listen to music while participating in the Physical Agility Test.
