As one of nine children, John was raised in the Eastwood community. Always active in recreational programs, he would later devote many volunteer hours to Recreation Council programs. John currently resides in Edgemere with his wife Sherry, also a native of Dundalk, and children Justin and Jordan. Eldest son John, Jr. was recently elected to the House of Delegates 1978 Graduate of Dundalk High School
