The County's official zoning map is adopted by the Baltimore County Council.
Every four years, the County reviews the map in comprehensive fashion and considers requests for changes to the zoning classification of individual properties.
The 2008 Comprehensive Zoning Map Process (CZMP) is underway. Later this year, the Council will receive the recommendation of the Baltimore County Planning Board with respect to each request for a change in zoning classification. The 2008 CZMP will conclude when the County Council votes on all zoning requests. The vote must occur before September 16, 2008.
The County Council has the sole authority to dtermine the zoning classification of a property and, in doing so, may accept, reject or modify any recommendation of the Planning Board.
The Council will adopt a separate map for each councilmanic district by legislative act. The maps will be effective on the date specified in the legislative enactments.
Prior to the Council's vote, a public hearing will be held in each of the seven councilmanic districts. Testimony at the hearings will be limited to the zoning requests within the district for which the meeting is held.
The Council has finalized its schedule for the 2008 CZMP hearings.
