Properties with environmental concerns are now eligible for tax credits after environmental clean up. Polluted sites often lay dormant, unattractive to development due to clean-up and liability concerns. Federal and state laws have now clarified the legal responsibilities for environmental clean-up, paving the way for opportunities to redevelopment land in prime commercial locations.
In 1997, Baltimore County enacted Brownfields Tax Credit legislation. Once a site has completed the Maryland Voluntary Cleanup Program and passed environmental inspection, the property owner is eligible for a five-year, 50% property tax credit from Baltimore County and the State of Maryland.
Brownfields technical assistance, clean-up and assessment grants are available to Baltimore County commercial property owners.
Baltimore County Tax Credits available for commerical buildings with at least a LEED Silver Rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.
