Towson, MD (June 30, 2004) - Visitors to downtown Towson on weekends and evenings will be able to enjoy discounted garage parking just in time for the July 4 holiday celebrations. Beginning July 1, 2004, patrons of Baltimore County Revenue Authority garages in Towson can park for $1 all day Saturday or Sunday, and weekdays when entering after 5:30 p.m. On-street meters continue to be free after 6 p.m., seven days a week.
The Park for a Buck program, a joint initiative of the Baltimore County Revenue Authority and Baltimore County government, was launched in response to requests from merchants and restaurant owners in downtown Towson.
"Towson is truly Baltimore County's downtown. We want to make it easy for people from around the area to enjoy the many new restaurants, shops, and traditional events such as the July 4 celebration and Towson at Night concerts, " said Baltimore County Executive James T. Smith Jr.
"The parking garage next to the Towson Library is a convenient location in the center of downtown activity," added Baltimore County Revenue Authority Executive Director George Hale. "The Revenue Authority is pleased to offer these attractive rates to encourage visitors to downtown Towson evenings and weekends."

There are 5,817 spaces in downtown Towson's public and private parking garages, with an additional 518 on-street metered spots and 152 off-street metered spaces
Downtown Towson has seen a resurgence of new businesses and investments. Among the projects completed or nearing completion:
- The area's first drive-through Starbucks opened June 26, transforming the vacant Crown gas station at the gateway intersection of York Road and Burke Avenue.
- The Greene Turtle family restaurant and sports bar is nearing completion on York Road near Chesapeake Avenue, filling a vacant site of the former Finkelstein's clothing store. Read Story
- At the corner of York Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, construction is nearing completion for a Beach Bum's Ice Cream, a new outlet for the popular Federal Hill shop.
- The County is negotiating to purchase the vacant gas station at Towson Circle to redevelop as a downtown park.
- Olive & Sesame II restaurant fills a long vacant restaurant space on Pennsylvania Avenue.
- Bahama Breeze at Towson Circle, with one of the Darden Restaurant Group's most successful opening months, is now open for lunch
- The last section of the York Road streetscape is nearing completion, complementing private reinvestment include a dramatic new facade on the Alex Cooper building, improvements to the Mattress Giant/Carpet Land site, a new Saturn dealership, and renovated Honda dealership. A new Lexus dealership is under construction at York and West Roads.
