The Catonsville Senior Center sits in a park-like setting surrounded by shrubs and trees, ball fields and tennis courts. It provides an active, exciting venue for senior citizens to learn, explore, become enriched, and maintain health and wellness in retirement years. In addition to a brand new state-of-the-art fitness center, it offers more than 35 classes for a nominal fee ranging from mental stimulation to the fine arts; from softball to yoga; from creative writing to Spanish; from computer education to aerobics.
The Center Council supports a caterer to provide on-site home-cooked mid-day meals. This is a tremendous asset that only this center offers in Baltimore County.
Tennis courts are on the property, affording the opportunity for members to sharpen their skills and enjoy this sport - another unique feature of this center.
The fitness center project is operated in partnership with Towson University School of Health Professions. It is equipped with treadmills, recumbent bikes and steppers, strength training circuits, flexibility and stretching stations, free weights and more! Each participant receives a fitness assessment, orientation and an individualized exercise plan.
The center council sponsors one-day trips, extended travel opportunities throughout the United States and cruises to foreign lands. These excursions provide companionship and enjoyment for the members.
There are over 1,900 members and three full-time staff; therefore, volunteers are important to the daily operation of the facility. There are many volunteer positions that enrich and challenge the membership. Leadership, clerical, teaching, van driving, fund-raising, party planning, class registration - these are some of the ways to maintain skills and make a contribution to the center.
A monthly newsletter announcing special events, programs, speakers and classes is published for the membership. Stop by the center and pick one up or read the current issue (PDF) online. Each semester a directory of classes is published. Choose your classes and register for the upcoming semester.
The center is off of the Baltimore Beltway (695), Exit 15B to Rolling Road, left on Rolling Road to Old Frederick Road, left on Old Frederick Road to our campus. We encourage you to stop by, call 410-887-0900 or e-mail catonsvillesc@baltimorecountymd.gov to take advantage of the many programs and activities offered at the center. To learn about programs and activities offered at other county senior centers, visit the aging calendar.
