Question 7. In the nineteenth century, an exclusive preparatory school for boys was built and run by Dr. John Prentiss near Hamden on Falls Road which was then in the County before a series of annexations by Baltimore City. What was the name of this school?
Answer: The Medfield Academy. The tuition was $300 a year which was high for the times. Before the Civil War, the Academy offered college courses, a band, a cricket team, a literary society, and bowling alleys. It held “exclusive dances”. It operated into the 1890’s and the sons of many of Baltimore’s most prominent families went there.
