Towson, Md. (October 22, 2009) — Businesses can post internship positions on a single web site that taps the potential of the 120,000 students at 16 Baltimore area colleges and universities. Baltimore Collegetown Network's internship web site includes an online internship database, resources for businesses and students, and links to area college career centers. The site, at www.BaltimoreCollegetown.org/intern, includes sample projects, evaluation criteria, and sample job descriptions. The site was developed in part through a grant from the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development. "Talented college interns in all disciplines offer businesses a fresh perspective," said David S. Iannucci, Executive Director of the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development. "Business internships offer college students invaluable experience and mentoring," said Kristen Campbell McGuire, Executive Director of the Baltimore Collegetown Network. "This web site makes it easy for business to reach this valuable talent pool by posting internships with 16 colleges at the same time." A free workshop, "Internships 101: Recruiting and Hiring Your Next Generation Workforce," will be held Friday, November 6, 8:30 to 11 a.m. at UMBC. Topics include Creating a Successful Internship Program, Supervising Millennials, and Recruiting for Diversity. The program is sponsored by the Baltimore Collegetown Network, Baltimore County Department of Economic Development, Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce, UMBC, and Baltimore Business Journal. The workshop is free but registration is required at www.BaltimoreCollegetown.org/intern. |
