Towson, Md. (September 21, 2009) — Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith commended the spirit that Dundalk residents displayed over the weekend. "Once again the people of Dundalk came together during a very difficult time. It was extremely gratifying to watch neighbor help neighbor clean streets and basements and get back on their feet as the weekend progressed," said Smith. "I am also very proud of our County employees and the cooperation that Baltimore County received from Governor O'Malley and Mayor Dixon. The response to Friday's water main break was truly a regional effort, and I want to assure those affected by Friday's event that Baltimore County will partner with them in the days and weeks ahead as the recovery effort continues." Smith also reiterated this morning that Baltimore County is not sending private contractors to the Dundalk area to solicit business from homeowners whose homes were damaged by Friday's water main break. "It has been erroneously reported that Baltimore County has selected a private contracting firm as its preferred vendor for clean up in the Dundalk area," said Smith. "I want to make it very clear that the County has not sent any contractors to the area, and is not, and will not endorse one contractor over another. When residents choose a private contractor to assist in their recovery efforts, they should coordinate that choice with their insurance company."
