Towson and Catonsville in Top 10 for Young Families

Towson, Maryland (September 19, 2013) – Towson and Catonsville hit the top 10 when it comes to best places in Maryland for young families, according to a new ranking by NerdWallet. The online company looked at academic performance of public schools, home affordability, and income growth over the past decade.

"What makes a neighborhood great? Good schools, a variety of homes, and a quality of life that brings people and communities together," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. "We're proud that Towson and Catonsville are being recognized for their success as great places for young families to call home."

"For generations, Catonsville has been a great place to raise a family. It's nice to be recognized for what we've always known," said Catonsville Councilman Tom Quirk.

"Catonsville's thriving main street, excellent schools and friendly neighborhoods are perfect for young families. Recreation areas with hiking and biking paths, free summer music concerts and two farmers markets bring the community together and add to the great quality of life," said Teal Cary, Executive Director of the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce.

"Towson is a great place for young families, with outstanding schools, recreational opportunities, entertainment and shopping," said Councilman David Marks, who represents the Towson area.

Nancy Hafford, Executive Director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce noted, "You just have to visit downtown Towson for a Friday Night Feet on the Street concert or go to the farmer's market to see that this is a thriving place for young families."
