Towson, Md. (July 14, 2008) - Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith will hold a pep rally in Towson on August 1, at 7:15 p.m., to cheer-on County residents Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff. With the local Olympian swimmers already in Beijing, Smith will lead the cheers from Baltimore County along with Debbie Phelps, Michael’s mother, area sportscasters, cheerleading squads, local business representatives, and the community at large.
The pep rally will be held during the Towson Chamber of Commerce’s weekly summer event, Feet on the Street. Allegheny Avenue in Towson will be closed to traffic for the rally and Feet festival, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
“All of Baltimore County, actually all of the nation, is so proud of Michael and Katie – and to think both of these young swimmers grew-up right here in Towson,” said Smith. “Both athletes represent the kind of dedication and commitment to team and community that make this country great.”
Admission to the rally and festival is free. Refreshments and children activities are available.
