Towson, Md. (July 8, 2008) — The “Silver Tsunami” refers to the potential retirements of aging, baby boomer employees from the workforce. Forecasters predict 17 million jobs will be added to the U.S. economy with not enough younger employees to fill the jobs. At the same time, 78 million baby boomers are deciding whether to retire or continue working.
It is expected that 80 percent of management-level employees will turnover in five to seven years. For most organizations, this very real management crisis means “brain drain” – a loss of institutional knowledge impacting productivity and revenue.
Baltimore County’s Department of Aging and Office of Workforce Development will hold a “Silver Tsunami” Employer Workshop on October 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Timonium Fairgrounds. This is a one-day employer-based workshop to provide practical and detailed methods of mitigating the business impact of baby boomer turnover. Registration is $20; lunch is provided.
To register as an attendee or as a vendor, visit www.babyboomerexpoonline.com, then select “Special Features” or visit the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce web site, www.baltcountycc.com, then select “Calendar of Activities.” For more information, download the flyer (PDF) or call 410-887-2107.
