Towson, Md. (July 2, 2008) — Baltimore Area Special Hockey, Inc. will formally announce the formation of the Baltimore Saints Special Hockey program for individuals with developmental disabilities (five years and older) on Wednesday, July 16, at 6 p.m. at the Reisterstown Sportsplex, 401 Mitchell Drive.
No skating experience is necessary and the event is free. Come out and learn the sport of ice hockey.
Special Hockey offers both recreational and therapeutic benefits to participants. The program emphasizes social interaction, self-reliance, concentration, and willingness to adapt to new experiences with a sense of accomplishment and pride. The July 16 event will introduce participants to the adapted ice hockey season, which runs from October through March.
The coaches work with players to teach them how to skate at their own pace. The program, founded and directed by Jim and Teresa Zinkhan, is assisted by experienced USA Hockey registered players and certified coaches.
