The web site highlights actions that homeowners can take to reduce their bills for heating, air conditioning and lighting by enhancing their home’s energy efficiency. Tips on improving indoor air quality and reducing a home’s total environmental impact are also provided.
In addition to serving homeowners, the web site serves as an environmental portal for contractors and builders who participate in the agency’s housing programs. The web site gives contractors and builders immediate access to new standards that OCC is implementing on a pilot basis to advance green technology and reduce environmental impacts.
“We are delighted to launch a new service that helps homeowners and the building community adopt practices that foster a sustainable environment,” said Elizabeth Glenn, chief of community planning and development for the Office of Community Conservation. Glenn worked with consultant Dr. Mark Bundy and the county Office of Information Technology in crafting the site. The public is invited to view the site at www.baltimorecountymd.gov/go/greenbuilding. Links to the site can also be found on the county home page and on the OCC home page.
“Baltimore County is committed to fostering a sustainable environment and taking every step possible to reduce energy costs and consumption,” said County Executive Jim Smith. “The green building web site is a great tool that will help everyone contribute to that goal.”
