Towson, Md. (June 12, 2008) - Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith and 4th District Councilman Ken Oliver marked the official start of construction on the Red Run Stream Valley Trail, a new community amenity that will convert an abandoned section of roadway into an attractive, wooded pathway for walking, biking and skating. The .77 mile paved, level trail is wheelchair-friendly and connects Pleasant Hill Road to Red Run Boulevard. The $600,000 construction project includes the replacement of a bridge, and is scheduled for completion this October. A feasibility study is underway to determine whether additional trails and amenities may be possible in the areas adjacent to the planned trail.
“This trail is a positive addition to the vibrant Owings Mills community and yet another element of Baltimore County’s Green Renaissance,” Smith said. “If you think about it, we are really recycling an unneeded roadway into a beautiful community amenity that gives people a great place to go outdoors and get their exercise.”
“This new trail is a welcome addition to the New Town community, one that families in the area will enjoy for years to come,” said 4th District Councilman Ken Oliver.
