Towson, Md. (June 11, 2008) -- Severe storms that moved through the area last night damaged four homes in north central Baltimore County.
The storm also downed power lines, leaving about 27,000 residents without power at the peak of the outage.
Fire and emergency management officials reported that the Cockeysville, Hunt Valley, Lutherville and Brooklandville areas, as well as Hereford, suffered the greatest effects of the storm. Fire dispatchers reported calls involving fallen trees, fallen power lines and hail the size of nickels. Multiple accidents were reported on I-83.
The damaged homes were located in the 8300 block of Carrbridge Court, Brooklandville; the unit block of N. Hampton Lane, Lutherville; the 200 block of Brightdale Road, Cockeysville; and the unit block of Belfast Road, Lutherville.
The number of 911 calls last night increased by 600 above the average, to 1,871 calls. The number of fire units dispatched doubled to 303, and the number of police units dispatched increased from the normal average of 1,875 to 2,130.
