County's Holiday Pet Adoption Special a Success
Towson, Maryland (May 29, 2014) – This past Memorial Day weekend, Baltimore County encouraged people to add to their families by adopting a pet from its animal shelter, offering adoptions at 50 percent off the regular price. During the special, individuals could adopt a cat for $25 or a dog for $32.50. That special price included:
- Spay or neutering
- Complete veterinary exam
- Micro-chip with a lifetime registration
- Baltimore County license
In addition to the reduced cost of the adoption, each new person who adopted during the promotion received a 50 percent off coupon for spay or neuter services to share with a friend, continuing the County's effort to promote its spay and neuter program.
Over 200 Visitors to the Animal Shelter During Holiday Promotion
The success of the program, which ran from May 21 through May 25, exceeded expectations with:
- 229 visitors to the shelter
- 12 dogs adopted or released to rescue organizations
- 28 cats adopted or released to rescue organizations
"This is just great news to everyone who is working so hard to find good homes for the animals in our shelter," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. "We will continue to work hard to ensure that every adoptable pet in our care finds the home it deserves."
"The enthusiastic response from the community to the half-price adoption event was wonderful for our animals," said Veterinarian, Dr. Leslie Sinclair.
"We are glad to be part of such an event that places our animals in a home environment," said Veterinarian, Dr. Melissa Jones. "But, I remind people not to wait, because your perfect pet might be waiting now and our normal adoption fees are so low in the first place."
