The “Listening Post” is an opportunity to gather public input on community issues relating to disabilities issues in Baltimore County
Towson, Md. (May 8, 2008) - The Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities and the Maryland Commission on Disabilities will co-host a “Listening Post” on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Stembridge Community Center, 101 Stemmers Run Road, Essex, MD.
The Listening Post will be an opportunity for people with disabilities and their families to share their concerns and experiences, and for Commission members to gain insight into community issues for future disabilities plans.
“We are very pleased to be co-hosting this interactive event with Baltimore County,” said David Ward, Chair of the Maryland Commission on Disabilities. “Listening Posts are an important information tool for the Commission as we identify the issues that impact the lives of people with disabilities who live and work in Baltimore County.”
Terri Parrish, Chair of the Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities added, “To continue to be a vibrant force for change in the County, we need input from our constituents. Our citizens with disabilities are the best resource we have for defining the direction we must take in order to meet their needs.”
Serving in an advisory role to the Maryland Department of Disabilities, the Maryland Commission on Disabilities recommends changes to improve, reorganize or streamline services for people with disabilities. The Commission also provides a forum for the public to communicate recommendations for changes to state disabilities policies.
As a part of its community outreach efforts, the Commission also providing information to the public about the Department of Disabilities, other state agencies and programs to assist people with disabilities.
The Commission on Disabilities, which is located within the Baltimore County Office of Community Conservation, serves in an advisory capacity on the development and coordination of the County’s policies affecting individuals with disabilities and their families.

Our Vision is for a culture and environment to exist in Baltimore County which provides the supports and opportunities for people with disabilities to participate fully in all aspects of community life.
