Towson, Md. (April 30, 2008)—The Baltimore County Office of Fair Practices and Community Affairs is sponsoring two free workshops/seminars in May, "Board Development and Governance" and "Do I Need A Permit For That?"
The Baltimore County Office of Fair Practices and Community Affairs will sponsor a free workshop on "Board Development and Governance" on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The workshop will be held at the Towson Library, 320 York Road, Towson, Maryland 21204. Its purpose is to provide information to members of Non-Profit Boards and Commissions, in order to strengthen and enhance their ability to carry out their stated mission.
Topics will include:
- Board Effectiveness (looking at factors that make successful organizations);
- Meetings (setting the agenda; administration; decision-making);
- Committees (organizing committees around the organizations strategic goals);
- Motivation (joining a Board/Commission)
- Expectations (of the Board members) and much more.

The Baltimore County Office of Fair Practices and Community Affairs, along with Baltimore County Department of Permits and Development Management and The Home Depot, will co-sponsor a free workshop on "Do I Need A Permit For That?" on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 9 to 11 a.m.
The workshop will be held at the Liberty Family Resource Center, 3525 Resource Drive, Randallstown, Maryland. Its purpose is to provide information to the community on the permit process to ensure that any new development plans comply with land use regulations and fit in with existing community infrastructure, as well as compliance with Baltimore County's building and zoning codes.
Topics will include installations of;
- Decks,
- Sheds,
- Swimming pools, Fences, etc.
and if permits are needed, plus various "do it yourself (DIY)" hands-on demonstrations by Home Depot staff.
"With the start of spring, we see this workshop as an opportunity to help citizens with their home improvement projects" said Adrienne Jones, Executive Director of Baltimore County's Office of Fair Practices and Community Affairs.
