Towson, Md. (April 30, 2008)— Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith, along with the Baltimore County Minority and Women Business Enterprise Commission and the Baltimore County Commission for Women, hosted the 6th Annual MBE/WBE Awards Breakfast at the at the Crown Plaza in Timonium.
“Baltimore County is committed to making sure that economic opportunity is available to everyone. As our County has grown and become more diverse, women and minority owned companies have become increasingly successful, and increasingly important to our economy. Baltimore County has worked hard to encourage the growth and expansion of minority and women-owned businesses, and today we continue our commitment to ensuring that our contractor pool accurately reflects the communities we serve,” said Smith.
Each year, recognition is given to a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) firm and a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) firm that have done significant work with Baltimore County and have demonstrated their ability to perform quality work while maintaining well-managed companies. This year’s honorees are EBA Engineering, Inc. receiving the “MBE of the Year” award; Shannon-Baum Signs, Inc. receiving the “WBE of the Year” award; and Site Resources, Inc., the recipient of the Pioneer Award, which is given to a company that has demonstrated longevity, as well as growth and innovation in their field.
