Give Yourself a Valentine with a Sweet Deal on Pet Adoptions
Baltimore County Offers Half-Off Adoption Fees on Cats and Dogs from February 8 to 15
Towson, Maryland (February 4, 2014) – Residents can save money this Valentines' season and add some warmth to their lives by taking advantage of the County's "sweet deal" on pet adoptions from February 8 to 15.
"You don't have to wait for someone else to give you a Valentine this year," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. "During this sweet deal and all year long, Baltimore County Animal Services has adoptable pets ready to warm your home and your heart. We want to make sure that new pet owners and their companions start off on the right foot – or paw – so we are making it easier than ever to adopt a new dog or cat."
As part of this sweet deal on pet adoptions, County residents can adopt a cat for $25 or a dog for $32.50. When residents adopt an animal they will receive a pet that is spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies and other diseases, licensed, and microchipped.
The regular dog adoption fee is $65 for dogs. Recently, the regular cat adoption fees were reduced to $50.
"Owning a pet offers a wide range of health benefits," said Dr. Gregory Wm. Branch, director of Baltimore County Department of Health and Human Services. "Not only can it help reduce blood pressure, cholesterol and loneliness, owning a pet can also increase opportunities for exercise, outdoor activities and socialization."
"I recently adopted a dog from Baltimore County's animal shelter," said Council Chairwoman Cathy Bevins. "I visited the shelter and immediately fell in love with my little guy. I encourage others to visit the shelter and give themselves a very special Valentine this year."
