Barricade in Precinct 3/Franklin

Baltimore County, Maryland (September 10, 2013) - At 6:20 p.m. on September 9, officers responded to a home in the 4400 block of Mt. Carmel Road, 21074 for an unknown trouble call. When they arrived, they discovered that several people had been assaulted and that the suspect had barricaded himself inside the home with a rifle.

Officers determined that Kris Abbott, 43, had assaulted his estranged wife, Dawn Abbott, and his parents, Russell and Virginia Abbott, during a domestic argument. The suspect damaged a vehicle with a metal pipe. Dawn Abbott was pushed to the ground, and Russell and Virginia Abbott were struck with the same metal pipe. Everyone but the suspect ran to a nearby home.

Virginia Abbott, 76, of the 5100 block of Byerly Road, 21155, was flown to Shock Trauma for treatment of serious injuries. She was the only victim transported to the hospital for treatment.

Tactical units and hostage negotiators responded to the scene. Kris Abbott was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when tactical officers made entry into the home. The rifle was recovered on scene.

The suspect's body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
