Police Officer First Class Jason Schneider

Baltimore County, Maryland (August 28, 2013) - Police Officer First Class Jason Schneider, 36, has died at Shock Trauma after being shot while serving a warrant in Precinct 1/Wilkens today.

Chief Johnson stated, "Jason was extraordinarily experienced. He was a leader within the unit. This is a terrible loss for Baltimore County. His noble work is greatly appreciated, and his bravery and role in the great human experience brought us here today. Low crime rates mean nothing today...all that matters is that we lost a police officer."

Winters Lane Shooting

On August 19 at 10:11 pm, officers responded for a shooting in the 100 block of Winters Lane. A 29-year-old man got into an argument with the suspect, and the suspect shot him. The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

That investigation led detectives to a home in the unit block of Roberts Avenue on the morning of August 28. Tactical officers, including Officer Schneider, entered the home and encountered several subjects. At least one of the subjects was armed with a handgun and there was an exchange of gunfire. The officer and the suspect were both shot.

Another officer also discharged his weapon. The officer involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.
