Suspect Drags Officer With Minivan
At 4:22 p.m. on August 13, Baltimore County Police responded to a home in the 5400 block of Dogwood Road for a report of a burglary in progress. When the first officer arrived on the scene, he observed two males running from the home and getting into a minivan parked on the street in front of the house. Two other officers arrived on the scene as backup for the first officer.
The first officer approached the minivan and reached in the open driver's door window, attempting to stop the vehicle. The operator of the minivan grabbed the officer's arm, held it, and began to move the vehicle forward. Fearing for his life, the officer drew his service weapon and opened fire. The two officers who responded as backup also opened fire. The minivan crashed into a vehicle parked nearby. Both the operator of the minivan and the passenger were hit by gunfire.
The officer who had been dragged by the minivan received minor injuries.
Suspect's Nephew Fatally Shot
The operator of the minivan was transported to SInai Hospital, where he was declared deceased. He has been identified as Allen Harvey Jr., 23, of the 4100 block of Fairfax Road, 21216. He is the nephew of Leon Harvey.
The passenger in the minivan was transported to Shock Trauma where he remains hospitalized. Charges will be filed upon his release from treatment.
The names of the officers involved in this incident are not being released at this time. The officers involved will be placed on administrative duty while the incident is reviewed.
The incident remains under investigation. Detectives believe that these suspects have been responsible for other burglaries; property not belonging to the Dogwood Road home was found in the minivan.
