UPDATE (May 23, 2017 3:55 p.m.):

Baltimore County Police have charged Antonio Tremayne Jones (45) of the 4900 block of Aberdeen Avenue in Baltimore, 21206, with the shooting of the Baltimore City Police Officer last Thursday. Jones is the estranged husband of the victim's girlfriend.

Jones is charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, and the Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony and is held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Original Release (May 18, 2017 10:23 a.m.):

An off-duty Baltimore Police officer was shot last night at his home in Gwynn Oak.

Around 11:22 p.m. yesterday, police from the Woodlawn Precinct were dispatched to a the home after a man, later determined to be a 50-year-old off-duty city officer, was shot through his front door. 

The victim went to answer a knock at his front door but was shot through the door before opening it. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive his injury.

This shooting continues to be investigated by the Baltimore County Violent Crimes Unit.

Detectives are exploring whether this was a targeted shooting. Detectives do not believe the shooting is connected to any criminal activity on the part of the victim.

Police are withholding the victim's address due to safety concerns.
