Baltimore County Police have identified the two-year-old boy bitten by a dog in his Essex home Tuesday as John August Cherny.
Original release (April 22):
At 4:26 p.m., Baltimore County Police and Fire personnel responded to a home in the Unit block of Barnacle Court in Essex for a report of a dog bite. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a two-year-old male with serious injuries to the upper body.
The initial investigation into this incident has indicated that the two-year-old was in the home when a family pet, a three-year-old brown pit bull named Midnight, attacked him. During the struggle to get the dog off of the child, family members killed the dog.
The child was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment of what are believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say that the family has had the dog since it was a puppy and there have been no previous problems.
