UPDATE: The suspect that was arrested in connection with the February 22 shooting at the Dukes Motel in Rosedale has been identified as 24-year-old Akeem Raghib Smith of the 8200 block of Pulaski Highway in Rosedale. He is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Just before 7:30 a.m. on February 22, Baltimore County Police responded to the Dukes Motel located in the 7900 block of Pulaski Highway for a shooting call. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate a suspect or a victim.

One of the responding officers observed a man fitting the description of the possible shooter, walking into a nearby Royal Farm store, also in the 7900 block of Pulaski Highway, 21237. Noticing the officer, the man walked out of the store and attempted to run from the police. The man was detained after a brief foot pursuit. Officers located a handgun inside the store. Officers continued their investigation and placed the man under arrest.

It was determined that the man had an argument with a woman inside a room at the Dukes Motel. The woman left the room and got into her car to leave the area. The suspect shot into the tire of the car to prevent the woman from leaving, but she continued to drive away. Witnesses claim that the suspect fired additional shots at the car, as the woman drove off of the parking lot.

The victim was later located by police, safe and unharmed. No one was harmed during the incident. Additional information will not be available until the suspect is formally charged by police.
