Two house fires in the Chestnut Ridge area began Wednesday afternoon within 1 1/2 miles of each other, heavily damaging the structures.

The first fire, in the unit block of Rises Court, was dispatched at 2:26 p.m. The Hereford Volunteer Fire Co. arrived first and called for a Tanker Strike Team and a second alarm. The fire was called under control at 3:30 p.m.

One civilian and one firefighter patient suffered minor injuries.

The second fire, in the 1800 block of Broadway Rd., was dispatched at 3:59 p.m. Several collapses occurred during the course of this fire. The fire was called under control at 5:15 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
