Photo of house fire on Essex Avenue in Essex. At 9:02 a.m., Baltimore County firefighters responded to a home in the 700 block of Essex Ave in Essex for a dwelling fire with rescue.  The Essex Fire Station's Engine 7 was the first unit on the scene and found a two-story single family home fully involved with fire.

Before the arrival of fire crews, a police officer and a neighbor made forcible entry into the home and rescued a woman from inside. She was treated at the scene by EMS personnel and later transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview for treatment. Her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The woman told police that she was on the first floor of the home when she heard a loud noise and immediately saw fire and windows that had been shattered.

Because of the victim’s description of the fire, police are investigating to determine whether an incendiary device was involved. Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Early this afternoon, police located a neighbor who they believe may have information about this fire. Police are questioning this neighbor, who was located in his vehicle at the intersection of Rossville Boulevard and Orems Road.

One firefighter who fell on the ice and one police officer suffered minor injuries and were transported to Franklin Square Hospital for treatment.

Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
