An initial search by police divers for Steve Curtis Jennings Jr was not successful. Early in the afternoon, police requested a “side scan sonar unit” from Central Maryland Task Force Two (a regional task force) so a more detailed underwater search could be conducted. A member of the Baltimore City Fire Department responded with the unit and began to scan underwater.
In the early evening, the scan indicated an object under the water. Divers were immediately sent into the water to verify what the object was. Due to the terrain on the bottom of the quarry, it was difficult to guide the divers, so they had to return to the surface. A stokes basket was then dropped straight down in the water next to the sonar contact, and divers followed the line straight down.
At 7:33 p.m., divers located a body 58 feet underwater. The body was removed from the water at 7:40 p.m. and later confirmed to be Steve Curtis Jennings Jr.
The body of Steve Curtis Jennings Jr was removed to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore City for an autopsy.
